Master Seong
Hwan Yong Seong


Master Seong was born in Kwangju, Korea. He currently holds a 6th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a 5th degree black belt in Hapkido, a fourth degree black belt in Haidong Gumdo, a 3rd degree black belt in Kickboxing and a 1st degree black belt in Judo.

Among his many achievements in the martial arts, Master Seong was the Featherweight Champion at the 1998 Black Belt U.S.A. International Open Tae Kwon Do Championships, was named the Black Belt U.S.A. International New Millennium Martial Artist Award in 1999 and received certificates from both the Korea Hapkido Federation and the World Haidong Gumdo Federation for outstanding instruction in each of these disciplines.

Master Seong has been an instructor of Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, Kickboxing and Haidong Gumdo for more than 20 years and taught thousands of students of all ages at various schools in Korea and the United States before bringing his countless skills and immeasurable talent to Canada.

He is an outstanding martial arts instructor who has been repeatedly recognized and commended by the schools where has taught for his excellent and dedicated instruction, as well as for his formulation and establishment of training curricula. He is beloved by his students and has left an indelible mark on all whom he has taught. Since coming to Canada, Master Seong has instructed at schools such as Tiger Kim's Martial Arts Academy and Black Belt World and, in the summer of 2002, founded Urban Warrior - Master Seong's Tae Kwon Do.

In addition to his highly successful martial arts career, Master Seong also served his country as a Lieutenant in the Korean National Army from 1992 until 1994.
